Author Interview with Wendi L. Wilson

Have you ever finished a book in a specific genre and wanted to pick up another just like it? If you're a writer, have you ever finished a book and asked yourself, "I want to write a story like that?"

Author Wendi L. Wilson is one such author who decided to write a book in the YA paranormal romance genre, and by the looks of her Amazon reviews, she has received an overwhelmingly positive response from fans of this genre as well as readers who don't read much YA fiction. It's difficult to write a story that pleases an intended audience while capturing new readers of the genre at the same time. This is the mark of a great story and great storytelling.

Below is my interview with Wilson along with a link to buy her book, Shadowed Strength.

1. How many books have you written and where can you buy them?

Just one, so far. My book is called Shadowed Strength and can only purchased through Amazon in ebook or paperback format.

2. What famous books can you compare to your own?

It's a young adult paranormal romance, so in that aspect, I would compare it to Twilight, minus the vampires. And the werewolves. It's a shiftier romance with the same kind of feel.

3. Why do you write for this particular age group?

I write YA because that's what I love to read. This story has been brewing since I was a teenager myself.

4. How autobiographical are your books?

The main character, Melanie, shares a lot of my traits and the insecurities I suffered with at that age. One scene in the book actually did happen to me, on a smaller scale, regarding a boy and a note. You'll see when you read it.

5. What’s the best compliment that you’ve ever received about your writing?

Some of my readers have said that they loved it so much, that they couldn't put it down and ended up reading until the wee hours of the morning. That such a huge compliment for me, because not many books have caused me to do that.

6. What has been your greatest moment as a writer so far?

The moment my 50 year old brother read my teen paranormal romance book and called me gushing about how excellent it is. He's not the type to blow smoke, you know what I mean? And if a middle aged man could love it, so could my target audience of teens/women.

7. Where do you get your covers?

I ordered my cover from a site called selfpubbookcovers.com. Starting out with a shoestring budget made me very thrifty. I was so grateful to find a remade cover I loved at such a great price.

8. What is a subject/character/setting you would like to tackle?

I think it would be fun to write a New Adult romance. I just don't know if I would feel comfortable having people I know read sex scenes that I wrote. Haha.

9. What is next for you?

I am currently writing the next book in the Shadowed Series.
